David Shuster suspended by MSNBC

David Shuster suspended by MSNBC

Postby thecanessacorner on Tue Feb 12, 2008 3:09 pm

David Shuster, of MSNBC, was suspended after he suggested Chelsea Clinton was being "pimped out" to help her mother gain more super delegates for the Race for the White House. I think this was too harsh a punishment for words that, in today's world, have a much softer meaning than they used to. Anyone else have thoughts?

I agree it's too harsh, but I am not suprised. After everyone over reacted over your main man IMUS, including MSNBC, they had to do this. TThey painted themselves into a corner here. Plus, being viewed as openly supporting Obama with their coverage, they had to act or else the conspiracy theories would have been flying.

We all must get used to this Politically Correct world.

Imus, Tilghman, Shuster....

Harsh punishment

Postby JamesC on Fri Mar 14, 2008 10:54 am

While I agree that the punishment was over the top, you must admit, as a professional journalist, he could have chosen a better phrase to describe the situation. Personally, I think it is wonderful that Chelsea is involved in her mother's campaign. We are always harping on the young for not getting involved politically. Could the backlash simply be because it happens to be Hillary's daughter? So many people seem to hate the Clintons just for being the Clintons.

James,

I've always thought it was b/c Chelsea is a Clinton -- no other reason.

I wrote to David personally, and he got back to me. I don't know if it's just that I am not watching MSNBC as much, but I don't know if he's even back on the air yet. He felt badly about how it panned out, though, I can tell you that much.

But unfortunately, in TV news, sorry is not enough. It's a sad but true commentary. Just ask Dan Rather.
