Human Faith

Human Faith

Postby Mr. L on Tue Feb 26, 2008 6:49 am

Mr. P writes: "if we don't interpret the Bible literally, then it is left up to over 6 billion individual interpretations."

And if we do interpret the Bible literally, then it is left to what each of 6 billion people thinks the Bible means. Biblical fundamentalists run the gamut from very kind to utterly hateful, as in the case of the Phelps church in Kansas. On the whole, fundamentalists are not more Christ-like than everyone else; in fact, just the opposite is true.

There is no getting around human choice in ethical and moral and religious systems. The value of a human life is intrinsic, that is, within itself. It requires no external justification.

That means, like it or not, we must trust and rely on people. I expand that to say we must have Faith in people. This is Faith as a creative force.

This topic of human Faith is central to my life. If enough people take an interest in it, I would be willing to mentor a project in it online. I would need about a dozen participants.
